Program Overview

This is a full day program where students investigate a chosen community and focus on the concept of place through an investigation of the community’s liveability.  They also consider how the area could further improve its liveability.

In a comparative community study students explore how places differ in the characteristics of their populations and utilise geographical data to measure aspects of communities such as liveability, aesthetics and demographics.  Once identified they will investigate ways to improve these factors, focusing on the planning role of the government and local community.

During the program students visit 2 sites within the area of study to investigate how the Brisbane CBD planning scheme has guided development in the area towards a city that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.  Reference to the BCC “Living in Brisbane 2026 Vision” is also incorporated into the students’ evaluation of how effectively the area is addressing sustainability criteria.
