'Creature Features' is an engaging two-hour incursion in which students observe and identify external features to group living things and answer the big question – 'Is a bee like me?'
To prepare us for our exploration and identification of living things found around school, we engage in a series of fun activities including sorting ourselves according to our external features (with the addition of some fun dress ups).
With guidance from our visiting teachers, students collectively make a prediction about which creatures they may see during their school exploration. We then wake up our senses before heading outside to make and record our observations.
We then tally and compare our results to decide which group of living things (insects, spiders, reptiles or birds) are most prevalent in school.
On our return to the classroom, students sketch a bee and label the external features while we discuss how these help the creature to survive in its environment.
